“Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.” I Kings 17:9
You may have a need or problem where you can only see the answer or solution coming in one or two ways. But, do you know that God is so great that He may have solutions or provisions that you never have thought of?
Elijah had just been provided food by a brook of water and ravens (yes, birds!) bringing food every day by God’s command. Now, God told him the next provision was going to come from a widow woman! In that day especially, that was one of the most unlikely sources of provision.
One wonders if Elijah did a “double take” when he heard God say “widow woman”. Yes, God is so far out in front of us and so superior to us, that He may have solutions to our problems that we would never put down as potential sources of help.
Trust God. Obey Him. Crazy as it may have sounded, Elijah obeyed and went to Zarephath looking for a widow! God reveals this story to teach us a vital lesson to put into practice in our lives. Encourage yourself in a God so wise, so sufficient, so far above us.
