“So King Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom. And all the earth sought to Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.” I Kings 10:23
People traveled from great distances, made great effort to come and hear the wisdom of Solomon. His kingdom was like none other in wealth and greatness. Yet, the story is not ultimately about Solomon. Jesus, referring to Himself, said, “A greater than Solomon is here” (Matthew 12:42).
Jesus made that statement to people who read about Solomon’s greatness, but were blinded to the greatness and wisdom of the “greater than Solomon” standing right in front of them! Human depravity is such that we have eyes for anything but true riches and wisdom. But in grace, God opens the eyes of His loved ones to behold and be greatly impressed with the glory of Christ.
How is it with you? Do you see and seek the wealth and wisdom of the “greater than Solomon”? Do you recognize your need for His wisdom in your life and apply it accordingly? Are you enjoying the riches of knowing Him and serving in His kingdom? May it be so with you and I today.
