When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” John 19:30

Jesus had a mission to fulfill. He was sent by the Father into the world not with a vauge purpose, but the clear mandate to save His people from their sins. God the Son came to live, as a human being, in perfect conformity to the law of God. And He did! He came to teach the will of God, to show people the life that pleases God. And He did! He came to reveal more fully the character and and nature of the true God. And He did!

Finally, He came to suffer the full cost of justice that had been incurred by the sinful acts of His people. He came to pay the price, so that they wouldn’t have to pay. And He did! “It is finished,” He said. In fact, God requires nothing else to be paid in order for forgiveness and justification to be accomplished. There will never be any other offering for sin that will ever be acceptable to God. Jesus paid it all!

Are the words from Jesus’ mouth, “It is finished” your assurance, trust and confidence today? Those who believe upon Him and His perfect work have peace with God (Rom. 5:1). And those who have this peace, have not only forgiveness and a right standing with God, but also the power of Christ to have victory over sin in their daily walk. Meditate today on “It is finished.”
