“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.” Psalm 69:30-31
This Psalm is Messianic, having prophetic reference to Jesus Christ. This psalm should touch the hearts of those who sorrow over their sins, because it speaks of the pain and hardships Christ endured to remove His people’s guilt. But, here it speaks of the Savior singing the Father a song. Yes, Jesus sang! We know at least one occasion, at the last supper, where Jesus sang a hymn with His disciples to the Lord. And God was pleased with it!
God the Creator made birds to be able to sing. My daughter told me yesterday she read that some birds can sing two notes at once! It gives Him pleasure to hear His creatures sing. But, much more than birds, He received pleasure when Jesus sang to Him.
And now, He calls on those who are purchased by the blood of Christ, who call on the name of Christ, to sing to Him. Songs of praise and thanksgiving from the hearts of forgiven and justified sinners give God more pleasure than all the animal sacrifices of the Old Testament age. We have great reason to sing to Him. He is worthy. Even when your’re sad, in pain and discouraged, sing God a song from your heart. It pleases Him!
