“Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me. I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.” Micah 7:8, 9
Here is a fact: God’s people sometimes sit in darkness. It may be a darkness caused by our own sins, as in the context of this passage. It may be the darkness of grief, sickness, loneliness, or some other heavy burden. But, here is another fact: God is a light for His people, even in their darkness. What greater light than our Lord Himself!
Whether or not we can always feel the warmth of His love and grace, He has promised that He is with us in every season. Even if our darkness is because of our sins, God’s love hasn’t failed or diminished even if He must discipline us. The very one One against whom we have sinned pleads our cause and stands on our behalf. The result will be that we can once again live in the light and look upon His righteous beauty.
If you are in darkness today of whatever kind, seek the Lord. Seek the light of His word. Praise Him for His faithfulness. Live in hope because of His great promises.
