“Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.” Proverbs 11:4

The human heart can be so easily deceived as to think that wealth could potentially bail us out at Judgment Day! In this life, wealth can bring power, pleasure and so many comforts. It can be seen as a source of security and refuge. Because of this, our hearts can be easily led to trust in and value many things other than God, whether it be material possessions or a whole host of other things.

But there is something much more precious and valuable than riches, the righteousness of Jesus Christ. In the day when God’s wrath is revealed against sin, nothing will appear more secure and valuable than His righteousness. Because Jesus loved His people, He lived a perfect life which they failed to live, in order to make them accepted and complete before the Judge.

What do you value? Is Christ and Him crucified most precious, not just in word, but deep down in your heart? If we appreciate His righteousness given to us freely, should we not then desire to honor Him by living out righteousness practically in our daily lives? May we not see a life of godliness or conformity to God’s word as optional, but our joy and delight. May we show that we have been justified thru grace, by walking in genuine righteousness today.
